A Pinsa Trend is Coming to Lauderdale-By-the-Sea

The pizza-like dish from Rome is having a moment in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea with new La Capricciosa leading the way.

While pizza is definitely having a moment across the entire stretch of South Florida and the USA, a new similar trend might be starting alongside it, and that’s  PINSA. 

One of the newest Lauderdale By The Sea restaurant openings is La Capricciosa which is a dedicated pinseria serving a bevy of puffy, elongated pies that simply melt in your mouth.

But let's back it up and offer an explanation. What is a pinsa? Derived from the Latin word “pinsere” or “to press,” pinsa is a delicacy with a history dating back to the Roman Empire. While similar to pizza, there are very key differences. First, the shape of pinsa is more of an oval. Second, pinsa dough is made with rice and soy flour , making it easier to digest and lower in fat than traditional pizzas.

The pinsa being dished out inside La Capricciosa is not only digestible but delicious. Pinsa options include a classic Margherita with San Marzano tomatoes and fior di latte; a traditional Marinara with cherry tomatoes; and other drool-worthy ovals like the Quattro Formaggi with Gorgonzola and SPEK and NDUJA!

Beyond pinsa, the restaurant also offers a selection of antipasti like salads, carpaccio , and Charcuterie boards , along with pasta favorites like pappardelle amatriciana , lasagna al forno, and porcini risotto

La Capricciosa opens its traditional space to the public, featuring a open-air patio, and a wine selection with a broad range of bold Italian labels from Sardinia, Tuscany, Puglia, and beyond.
The patio is available for the pinsa-curious, and takeout and delivery are hits in the bustling Lauderdale by the sea  neighborhood.
